Earth Day 2022

With the theme of Earth Day 2022 being “invest in our planet”, there is a focus on businesses and communities coming together to build healthier countries and economies.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day is a global event that promotes clean living, with a focus on creating a healthy environment for everyone inhabiting the planet. The mission of Earth Day is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Together, we can prevent harm to the planet, limit any further environmental impacts and re-establish a harmonious balance between nature and people.

Investing in our planet

Whether you use your voice, wallet, or platform to make your opinion heard this year we are urged to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably) to protect our planet whilst building a green, prosperous future.

How we are getting involved

Sustainable from day one

Here at Tom Raffield, we consistently make protecting the planet a key factor in every decision we make. From our planet conscious design process and ecological steam bending technique, to choosing sustainable materials and working with likeminded partners...we put the Earth's recovery at the forefront of our business.

Our Partners

We are proudly partnered with Ecologi to create a climate positive workforce. Ecologi work to tackle the climate crisis and keep global temperatures from rising by planting trees and investing in carbon reduction projects. Working with Ecologi, we support projects that offset tonnes of CO2 and minimize our waste streams to become a climate positive workplace.

Some of Ecologi most recent projects:

Wind power project in Mexico. This project produces clean energy for Mexico, alongside helping to educate over 1,000 children about the importance and value of nature.

First Ever Wind Power Project in Honduras. Not only providing hundreds of local people employment, whilst producing clean water to 2,000 local people, it allows Honduras to be closer to its clean energy goal.

Regularly supporting local reforestation in the United Kingdom. Aiding the support and regrowth of vital habitats and ecosystems around the UK.

As continued members of the WWF 2030 Circle and supporting the Trillion Trees programme we’re dedicated to restoring the natural habitats and ecosystems that have been lost over the last several decades due to human intrusion and destruction. Trillion Trees is a joint venture of three of the world’s largest conservation organisations – WWF, BirdLife International and the Wildlife Conservation Society. The campaign has ambitious, yet necessary, targets to re-grow, save and better protect one trillion trees across the globe by 2050. The 2030 Circle aims to re-establish the right trees in the right places to conserve biodiversity, sustain ecosystems, capture enough carbon to tackle climate change, and lift people out of poverty and food insecurity.

How you can get involved...

Whether it’s a big group event, a solo clean-up, or making small changes at home, you can get involved anywhere.

Thoughtfully designed to rest against your wall by a tan leather handle, the Maya Wall Planter is perfect for showcasing your houseplants, herbs, or homegrown produce without taking up too much space.

Asses your carbon footprint. Growing your own produce is an easy, and tasty, way to lower your carbon footprint. This allows you to grow only what you will eat, reducing both food and plastic waste. Another simple way to care for the planet through food, is opting for plant based, vegan options when eating out which are often cooked with fresh, vibrant ingredients.

Minimise plastic usage. Opting for reusable items, such as bags and water bottles, will help minimise landfill. However, the most sustainable option will always be the option you already own – so don’t feel guilty for owning a plastic carrier bag already, as long as you use it until the end of its lifetime.

Join a community clean up. Being respectful of your community and environment around you is a great way to drive change. Whether you join a community clean in up within your area, or start an individual clean up, the impact on the environment will be extraordinary. Restore your area on this Earth Day by clearing away any materials not suitable for surrounding wildlife and greenery.

Make an impact through simple purchase decisions. Individuals have the power to make a stand by only opting for sustainable choices. From cleaning products, to homeware, there are many ways to shop sustainably, letting bigger corporations know what is important when it comes to investing in pieces.

Sign a petition, join a community action group or subscribe to keep informed. When we work together to make our communities more climate-friendly, making a difference and a local and national level. You can be the solution to a global crisis.
