2023 has been a whirlwind year at Tom Raffield. From exciting product launches to inspiring collaborations and our sustainability updates, the team has been hard at work using this year as an opportunity to refine and perfect our craft and our sustainable journey. We kicked off the year with a bang, introducing a range of innovative designs that pushed the boundaries of craftsmanship and creativity. From the mesmerising expansion of the Loer Lighting Range, inspired by lunar forms, to the sleek and stylish Kesu Shelving Range, each piece showcased our commitment to blending artistry with functionality.

Crafting a Difference

To us here at Tom Raffield, sustainability isn't just a buzzword—it's a way of life. Throughout 2023, we worked continuously to prioritise eco-friendly practices and materials, ensuring that each of our designs has a positive impact on both interiors and the planet. With our newly appointed Sustainability Coordinator, Katie, we have become trail blazers as sustainable business – ensuring we do all we can to support the planet, with our craft.

Although we have always measured our carbon emissions, this year we focused even more on how we can reduce them, including renewable energy – continuing our partnership with Ecologi. We have also pledged to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030.

We have used plastic free, recycled packaging for a long time but we regularly review our offering to ensure every design arrives to it’s forever home in the safest condition, in the most sustainable way. We continued to use sustainable, FSC certified packaging materials, but made sure to maximise the potential of all our bespoke packaging, whilst minimising waste.

We proudly marked a significant milestone this year, as we commemorated 15 years of innovative craftsmanship, environmental stewardship, and creative growth. From our beginnings in the iconic wavy, wooden house, we have thrived endlessly.

Biophilic design for rented homes.

One in five households in England and Wales now rent, a figure which has doubled in the last two decades. Renting continues to grow in the UK as many are simply priced out of home ownership and mortgages remain increasingly difficult to secure. We spoke to interior expert Sharon, of @a_story_of_home, to discover how she has made her mark on her rental home, and why biophilic design is so important.
