Lighting

All Tom Raffield pendant lights can be dimmed providing you use a dimmable light bulb and a compatible trailing edge dimmer switch. Please consult your electrician for further advice. Our floor and table lights, and some of our wall lights, which have an inbuilt switch, cannot be dimmed. More information regarding trailing edge dimmers can be found here.

Our lights are not currently suitable for use outdoors or in wet areas such as bathrooms.

The electrical components in all of our lights are CE certified. All of our table and floor lights come fitted with a UK plug. All of our wall lights are suitable for use in the EU and either come with a UK plug or can be connected straight to the mains supply by a qualified electrician. An electrician will also be able to swap a UK plug for a suitable one for the country you're in.

Many of our lights are suitable for use across the globe. All of our table and floor lights come fitted with a UK plug but this can be changed by your qualified electrician if you choose. Alternatively, they can be connected straight to the mains supply by a qualified electrician. Some of our light fittings are not suitable for use in the USA and Canada. Where this is the case, it is clearly noted on the product page.

All Tom Raffield pendant lights (apart from our Cluster Lighting Range, the Kern Pendant, Kern Pendant Large, Kern Pendant Giant, Giant Flock Chandelier, The Loer and Raya ranges) are suitable for use in the US and other countries on 110-130v mains supply - all orders delivered to the US come with an E26 ceiling kit compatible with any E26 screw cap bulb. Please note that the E26 ceiling kits we provide are not UL rated. Our table lights, wall lights and floor lights are not currently suitable for use in the US and other countries on 110-130v mains due to the inbuilt wiring. Transformers can be used but are not available directly through Tom Raffield.

Most of our pendant lights are supplied with a two metre ceiling kit and flex (apart from the Kern Pendant, Kern Pendant Large, Kern Pendant Giant, Cluster Lighting Range and Giant Flock Chandelier). These can shortened by either concealing the flex in the void of the ceiling rose, or by cutting the flex at the ceiling rose end. This must always be carried out by a qualified electrician. It is not possible to adjust our ceiling kits from the bulb holder end.

Ash, oak and walnut woods all emit a different quantity of light - read our guide to finding the perfect light for your space.

Information on caring for your Tom Raffield lighting piece can be found in our product care guide.

Stem, Loer, Raya and Hanter Wall Lights are supplied with the option of either a UK plug or a connector block for hard-wiring directly into the mains concealing the flex in the void behind the wooden back plate supplied.

Our other wall lights are supplied with a bulb holder that screws directly into the wall and is hardwired into the mains electricity.

The Cape Wall Light is supplied with an angled B22 bayonet bulb holder fixed to a wooden back plate. This can be hardwired directly into the mains electricity.

Hardwired lights should be installed by a qualified electrician.

The colour of wood gradually develops over time - this is part of the beauty of natural materials. Read our guide to choosing your wood type to find out more.

All of our ceiling lights (apart from the Cluster Lighting Range, Kern Pendants (all sizes), Loer Chandeliers (both sizes) and Giant Flock Chandelier) are available with a 4 metre ceiling kit and flex if required. Get in touch with sales@tomraffield.com to find out more.

Most of our pendant lights can be hung with little or no flex showing between the ceiling rose and bulb holder, allowing you to mount your lights directly onto the ceiling. This can be done by cutting the flex at the ceiling rose end (see adjusting my ceiling kit) but it is always recommended a qualified electrician do this for you.
