Chelsea Flower Show 2018
Award winning furniture and lighting company, Tom Raffield, unveils brand new Green Range collection and creates impressive Main Avenue Pavilion with spiralling steam bent bench in collaboration with RHS twice gold medallist, Darren Hawkes at Chelsea Flower Show 2018.
Following the successful launch of the Gwenver Garden Room at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2017, in 2018 the Tom Raffield team will showcase a remarkable, brand new steam bent pavilion on Chelsea Flower Show’s prestigious Main Avenue – the first time a furniture and lighting brand has been invited to exhibit there.
Designed and handcrafted by the Tom Raffield workshop in Cornwall, England, the architecturally striking pavilion will contain a curated range of steam bent Tom Raffield furniture and lighting and is additionally set to unveil the brand new Green Range planter collection, launching exclusively at Chelsea Flower Show.
Furthermore, the Tom Raffield garden will feature exquisite, carefully curated gardens designed by critically acclaimed Cornish designer, and RHS Chelsea Flower Show double gold medallist, Darren Hawkes. Soft, subtle planting of predominantly green tones will be interspersed with splashes of purple and pink to recreate a calming Cornish countryside feel, reminiscent of the beautiful wild woodland surrounding the Tom Raffield studio.
Designer Tom Raffield says: “Collaborating with a garden designer, and especially one as talented as Darren Hawkes, to create a main avenue stand at Chelsea Flower Show has always been a goal of ours, and one we are incredibly excited to finally reveal. The Pavilion and spiralling bench are surrounded by Darren’s expert, wild, rustic planting to enhance the flowing continuity and mirroring of natural, organic materials featured both inside and outside of the space”.
Tom Raffield’s Chelsea Pavilion promises to be an enthralling, sensory experience for those who wonder amongst its many unfurling steam bent sections, inviting benches, archways and elegant, nature-inspired harmonizing twists.
Tom Raffield and the workshop
Combining traditional techniques with modern design thinking, Tom Raffield breaks new ground – from their origins in 2008, right up to their pioneering products and services today. Tom Raffield has become known for the transformation of wood using its unique method of steam bending to create the studio’s signature curved aesthetic and designs with a twist.
The woodland studio provides the backdrop for a team of skilled makers trained by Tom. “Each piece we create has been on an experimental journey - individual, organic and carefully considered. We source everything from sustainable woodlands and coupled with the low energy steam bending process, it is very ecological with little wastage,” explains Tom Raffield, designer and maker.
Handcrafted in their studios in Cornwall, England, the range of contemporary lighting and furniture Tom Raffield creates is based on beauty, integrity and a desire to create unique, high-specification products that will be cherished by their owners for years to come.
