Feel Happy Inside
Feeling content in our homes has never been so important. Home should be a sanctuary to enjoy spending time in and should help us to feel relaxed and calm in difficult times.
That's why we’ve put together some of our favourite tips on staying happy inside to help you create a hygge home. Read on to discover our team's top tips!
Create a quiet corner
A cosy corner of the living room, a favourite chair draped in blankets or even the bath. Finding a space to take some time out and relax is very important to remain a calm, level head in difficult times. Read a good book, listen to a podcast (find some of our recommendations here) or just take a power nap and spend time away from technology and your buzzing phone.
Dimming the lights, lighting some candles and softening your space with comfortable furnishings will make your home feel even more inviting. Try laying a Celtic Sheepskin rug over our iconic Arbor Armchair to create hygge, cosy nook to escape for a few hours.
Display your favourite things
Positioning your favourite objects around you can instil a sense of calm and make you feel more relaxed. Try rearranging some of your most treasured possessions, trinkets or art pieces on a shelf, or hanging them from walls, to remind yourself of a special trip, memories with loved ones or a holiday.
Handcrafted from sustainably sourced ash wood our compact Lundy, Housel and Tor Shelves make an interior statement without compromising on style and space.
Make time for you
In our bid to stay in touch with friends and family during these socially distanced times we’ve been finding new ways to communicate and make the most of modern technologies. With Zoom, Facetime, Houseparty and Whatsapp all readily available at the touch of our fingertips we’ve been really enjoying feeling connected to each other from afar.
However, with an influx of socialising online comes an increase in time looking at screens and feeling the pressure to check in and reply to everybody – which can be a little stressful. If you’re feeling a little drained from a lot of time online remember to hit the reset button and take some time out.
Have a social media detox for a weekend, limit catch ups with friends to the evenings or weekends and above all, don’t feel guilty for concentrating on yourself for a little while. Listening to our bodies needs is essential and taking some time for self-care should be just as important as spending time socialising with others.
Move
Healthy body, healthy mind. Stretching every morning with some yoga or pilates will help you feel motivated for the day ahead and doesn’t require a large floor area or fancy equipment that some home workouts rely upon.
If you’re not in the mood for stretching, then try some meditation and deep breathing to uplift your mood, get endorphins flowing, and refocus your outlook on the day ahead.
Focus
If we feel productive, we feel like we’ve achieved something positive and in turn, it makes us feel successful and happy. If you’re working from home, setting up a comfortable home office in which you feel motivated will make a big difference.
If you’re not working and still want to spend your time doing something beneficial, take some time to write a list of the things you want to complete in the coming weeks. Anything from clearing the spare room, re-homing your winter wardrobe, learning a language, cooking a new meal or practising a new skill like painting or drawing will help you feel fulfilled whilst you’re not in your usual routine.
Be thoughtful
A phone call to a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while, checking in on neighbours, sending a loved one flowers to show you’re thinking of them. It’s the small things that matter to brighten someone else’s day and, chances are, you’ll feel great about it too.
