Plan the ultimate bank holiday stay-cation...
With many of us spending the long-weekend at home this year instead of taking the opportunity to holiday abroad, we’ve put together some tips on how to stay-cation and make the most of the late-summer break.
Whilst it’s tempting to spend the weekend getting on top of that list of DIY jobs that need doing at home, taking time out to have a proper break and making time for yourself just as you would on holiday is very important, especially given the current climate. Spending quality time with family and friends, pursuing hobbies and relaxing should all be priority... here's our tips on making the most of the bank holiday at home.
Treat yourself to a slow morning
Kick off the bank holiday weekend and celebrate an extra day to yourself by switching off the alarm clock and enjoying an indulgent lie in. Take breakfast back to bed and spend time leisurely reading the book you’ve been meaning to finish for ages or the series you’ve been meaning to catch up on.
Set the scene: Illuminate your bedside with our steam bent Archer Table Light or, create a warm relaxing glow with our reflective Wheal Wall Light – a space saving design for any busy bedside.
Create a spa-like bathroom space
Spa breaks are the perfect way to relax so why not create a tranquil sanctuary in your bathroom to escape to? Channel holiday vibes by recreating a hotel-spa in your home and spend time pampering yourself. Run a warm bath and soak your muscles for ultimate relaxation or treat yourself with a soothing face mask or massage. Calming music and candles optional…
Set the scene: Give your bathroom a spa-makeover with a botanical garden feel by filling it with gorgeous greenery. Add our Green Range Planters filled with an array of lush trailing houseplants, succulents, and humidity-loving palms to feel like your bathing in your very own hotel spa.
Create a cosy corner
You cannot always count on the UK for a sunny bank holiday…if the weather isn’t kind enough to enjoy a long walk or an afternoon sat outside, create yourself a comfortable corner inside. The perfect place to read, have a little doze or kick back with an early evening cocktail, your cosy nook should be a quiet space to relax and forget the goings-on of the world outside. If the weather turns out nice, curl up in an outdoor hammock or hanging seat (such as our Amble Hanging Seat) and spend an afternoon in complete relaxation, surrounded by nature.
Set the scene: drape a sheepskin rug over an Arbor Armchair, Amble Hanging Seat or Beeble Pouffe to create the perfect reading backdrop.
Cook up a storm and dine alfresco
Trying delicious new foods is one of the best parts of a holiday break, so why not recreate a holiday trip at home by trying out new recipes with family and friends. If the weather permits, lay a table outside and enjoy dining alfresco for an evening with a garden or balcony skyline backdrop.
Set the scene: lay the table with your favourite crockery, dig out a tablecloth and light candles to create a special mood. Add small bunches of fragrant flowers displayed in glass vases and keep blankets and throws handy for when the sun sets.
Treat yourself to a souvenir
Just as you would treat yourself to a holiday keepsake, buying yourself a stay-cation gift is a nice way to mark spending a long weekend at home. Treat yourself to something special you’ve been admiring for a long time and try and support your small local businesses as much as possible.
Set the scene: treating a friend or family member to a stay-cation gift is a lovely way to brighten their day – you could each purchase a present from your local area and send them in the post in replacement of a holiday postcard.
