Tom Raffield x A Rum Fellow collaboration
In a partnership celebrating skilled craftmanship, innovative design and sustainable making practices, the Tom Raffield x A Rum Fellow collaboration brings together a select range of Tom Raffield’s signature steam-bent upholstered furniture designs with A Rum Fellow’s eye-catching Ikat indigo fabric.
The three beautifully bold pieces are playful new updates on the Tom Raffield Arbor Armchair, Arbor Dining Chair and Upholstered Crib Bench; each individually handcrafted by the Tom Raffield studio in Cornwall using sustainably sourced oak. All are exclusively available online from Tom Raffield.
Inspired by a shared appreciation of traditional craft fused with contemporary design, the designs incorporate Tom Raffield’s innovative and low-energy form of steam bending with A Rum Fellow’s ethically sourced Ikat fabric which is made by and supportive of Guatemalan weaving cooperatives. The result: extraordinary statement pieces that captivate the room.
Designer and maker Tom Raffield says: “It’s a special thing to collaborate with like-minded companies such as A Rum Fellow whose approach to design, craftsmanship and sustainability sits so nicely with the curves and forms of our furniture. For me, a large part of a product’s beauty is in its origins – who and how it was crafted – and this collaboration is a wonderful mix of provenance, beauty and timeless design.”
A Rum Fellow’s creative director Caroline Lindsell says: “Having our textiles adorning Tom Raffield’s beautiful furniture is a dreamy collaboration. The designs and making process have an integrity that really chimes with what we do at A Rum Fellow, fusing old craft traditions with a fresh perspective. A perfect combination.”
The collaboration will be showcased alongside new pieces from the Tom Raffield New Collection 17/18 of furniture and lighting at its first pop-up store in London at 67 York Street, Marylebone, between 16- 23 September coinciding with London Design Festival.
The A Rum Fellow x Tom Raffield collaboration has also been selected to feature alongside a selection of other Tom Raffield pieces at Heal’s Best of British Design event at its flagship Tottenham Court Road store in London between 31 July - 28 August 2017. Founder Tom Raffield will be in conversation with interiors journalist Jenny Coad as part of the event on Thursday 24 August. Tickets are available online via Heal’s.

Tom Raffield and the workshop
With an experimental workshop set amongst six acres of ancient woodland in Cornwall, Tom Raffield furniture and lighting designs are synonymous with nature; each product is hand-shaped using sustainable wood and created as sculptural pieces of art using a pioneering form of steam-bending.
Tom Raffield has become known for the transformation of wood using its unique method of steam bending to create the studio’s signature curved aesthetic and designs with a twist.
The woodland studio provides the backdrop for a team of skilled craftsman trained by Tom. “Each piece we create has been on an experimental journey - individual, organic and carefully considered. We source everything from sustainable woodlands and coupled with the low energy steam bending process, it is very ecological with little wastage,” explains Tom Raffield, designer and maker.
